PDFs are the perfect file to use for competition submissions as they're easy for us to work with and read, and make sure to keep your work looking exactly as intended. And you'll be glad to know they're very simple to create, too.
Creating a PDF using Microsoft Word
(Or Open Office/Libre Office/Google Docs/Mac Pages/Scrivener/Etc)
With your submission open in front of you, click 'file' at the top of the screen
Select 'Save As/Export To' or whichever option is displayed
You should see a dropdown box to change the type of file. It may show '.docx' or '.rtf' as the default. Click this, and change to PDF.
Choose a location to save to that's easy to find (like your documents or your desktop), and hit save.
When you're ready to submit via the Grindstone dashboard, simply find this new PDF file and upload it
Creating using an Online Converter with a Word File
Go to a site like ilovepdf.com or smallpdf.com
Click the appropriate option to create a PDF
Find your submission and upload it
Hit convert, and then use this converted file when submitting to Grindstone
