We're ecstatic to announce that this year's Flash Fiction Prize winners ill be chosen by the fabulous Catherine Cho!
Catherine is expert in all things writing, and with her new blog LitSeeker.com, she's proving that the barriers between agent and author are forever crashing down (mostly because she's the one holding the sledgehammer).
We've been lucky enough to commandeer some of her time, and she's agreed to preside over our Flash Fiction Prize for 2019.
Catherine is primarily looking to build a list of fiction and non-fiction authors, but her widely varied interests make her very well equipped to spot some upcoming talent, whether it's in the long or short fiction markets. And heck, getting your name and skill known to an agent is a pretty big advantage in this game.
In terms of what she's looking for, Catherine says:"I'm currently building my own list of fiction and non-fiction. I’m particularly looking to work with debut novelists.
I’m drawn to atmospheric settings and great storytelling. I love books that transport you – I enjoy stories with magical realism and speculative elements (time travel or high concept). I'm drawn to historical fiction, and I also enjoy science fiction and fantasy (Robin Hobb, Justin Cronin, Claire North). I would love to find novels that transcend genre, like Kazuo Ishiguro, David Mitchell or Margaret Atwood.
I look for novels with strong characters - characters that live beyond their stories. Some of my favourite authors include Chimamanda Adichie, Min Jin Lee, Elizabeth Strout, and Ann Patchett."
Last year, we did an interview with Catherine, where she went into some serious depth about the changing face of speculative and fantasy fiction, which featured in the flagship issue of our magazine. You can read the full interview here.
