2019 International Poetry Prize: Winners Announcement

Updated: Nov 23, 2019

Drumroll. You'll have to imagine it. You know what it sounds like.

It's been a ride. Wow. This one has been tough. Whittling down the entries to the longlist was tough enough, but cutting down from the longlist to the short? It took a few rounds of discussions and a lot of back and forth. But we got there. The names on the list below changed and changed places a few times, but our wonderful Special Guest Judge, the amazing Emily Jung Min Yoon has crowned her winners, and without further rhetoric, here they are. We couldn't be happier.

- Grand Prize Winner -

Dictionary at the El Paso Detention Centre by Lauren Delapenha

- Runner Up -

Drought Town by Ryan Stone

Shortlist

Scrap by Jack Faricy

Alice & Magda by Amaury Wonderling

Cauterise by Stella Hervey Birrell

Radio Talk Show by Robert Keeler

Stuttered Sentences by Jake Houchen

The First Time I Really, Properly Swam by Jane Burn

The above pieces are listed in no particular order. To those who won, you have our sincerest congratulations, and to those who shortlisted, still, you should be very proud. All of your work will appear in print in our yearly anthology, and you'll receive an email detailing the next steps very soon.

If your name doesn't appear above, that doesn't mean things are over. You've still got your feedback to come, as well as more opportunities ahead. The feedback will be released next week and you'll receive an email with instructions on how to see it.

For now, thank you so much for supporting us. We hope to read more of your work soon.
